PRE-SCHOOL BALLET & DANCE

Children are accepted in this class from 3 years of age, the class allows each child to meet and socialise with others whilst learning the magic of dance using themes related to their age, children learn the very basic music and movement skills during a fun and friendly environment.  Children are encouraged to join the annual school production! And are often the highlight of the show!

PRE-PRIMARY BALLET

Pre-Primary classes provide the opportunity for each child to develop musical awareness, good posture and coordination, and to cultivate imagination, confidence and concentration, whilst being introduced to the first basic positions of Classical Ballet.
 
The children learn through enjoyment, with lessons including topics and themes relating to their age and development. Classes of 45 minutes are held once a week during the term, there is one Pre-Primary class and two Primary classes available in the weekly timetable
Students are encouraged to take part in our annual school productions and take RAD Pre-Primary Assessment and Primary Examinations.

GRADE ONE / TWO BALLET

Lessons continue to nurture each child's unique dance 'quality'. Simple classical ballet steps are introduced building on basic positions taught in Pre-Primary and Primary, Imagination and acting ability are further developed in this grade, introducing Hungarian Style Character Dance for the first time.
Classes of 45 minutes are held once a week during the term. There is a choice of two Grade 1 lessons and one Grade two in the timetable. Grade two includes
the introduction of new exercises of the Classical Ballet technique with extended development of musicality, dance steps, coordination and improvisation. Students take part in our annual school productions and take RAD graded examinations.

GRADE THREE / FOUR / FIVE BALLET

Students at this stage of their training now have the option to continue their training with 2 classes per week.
Students at this level continue to develop the classical style and performance, adding a further variety of study to their ballet technique. Students now develop their character and learn the Russian style character dance in grade three and four and Polish Style Character in Grade five, students are encouraged to join in our annual school production and take RAD graded examinations.

There is currently 1 grade three and 1 grade five classes available in the weekly timetable.

GRADE SIX / SEVEN / EIGHT AWARD

Grade 6,7 & 8 Ballet classes are conducted at Shobnall Community Centre. This curriculum prepares the student for the higher grade RAD syllabus where their examinations results are also used as points towards UCAS.  Examinations are generally taken on an annual basis depending on continuity in lessons and amount of classes taken each week. The higher grades syllabus allows the students to perform a variety of longer exercises based on styles from well known classical ballets, the emphasis on the higher grades is to demonstrate strong technical proficiency and performance. Students are encouraged to join our annual school production.

There is 2 grade six 1 grade 7 and 1 grade 8 Award classes available in the weekly timetable.

MAJOR EXAMINATIONS

Suitable for students wishing to pursue a career in dance, the RAD major examination syllabus allows each and every student to reach their own potential whilst continuing to develop the strength in technique and dance vocabulary. Pointe work is now examined although students will have the opportunity to take classes in Pointe prior to reaching this level.

MODERN / JAZZ

Students have the opportunity to take lessons in Modern and Jazz which is an added strength to their classical training developing a flexible body. Examinations are taken with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance; It is advisable that students take this class alongside a classical class to allow strong development in both subjects.

TAP

Students can take tap lessons and examinations with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance. This syllabus allows the students to develop a strong sense of rhythm. It encourages a definite ‘think on your feet’ students learn the vocabulary throughtout the grades and are encouraged to participate in the annual school production, often leaving the audience thinking Wow!

Parents Day

Parents are invited to watch their child's lesson at the usual class time three times per year. A small student performance of the work studied during the term will be given for parents. Parents will be notified of dates and times through regular newsletters.

Students at Stephanie Parrott School of Dance are encouraged to lead a healthy lifestyle,with adequate rest and play.

Good manners are encouraged. All students end their classes with a curtsey to their teacher. Positive social interaction and communication is encouraged throughout the class with students working in couples, groups or as leaders. Rudeness or bad behaviour by any student is unacceptable.

Presentation plays an important part in ballet and performance. I encourage  correct grooming from the beginning of ballet training. Students are expected to come to class wearing correct uniform with hair in a bun, covered by a hair net, short hair can be held off the face with a headband. No jewellery or nail polish is to be worn. Ballet shoes are to be clean and tied correctly.

We encourage all students to participate in our annual school productions. This experience includes working alongside with all students from the school including Midland Youth Ballet and Midland Youth Theatre The students discover the excitement and enjoyment of working in a professional environment, and the thrill of performing on stage

In addition to normal class hours students will be required to attend two or three additional rehearsals of various durations including one theatre rehearsal and one performance.

Costumes are hired at minimal cost to the student to alleviate stress and expense for the parents.

Participation and information forms are administered early in the third term.

Annual School Performances Have Included :   Cinderella, Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets, Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban, Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, The Chronicals Of Narnia The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe, And Alice In Wonderland.
